Why a vegan pregnancy test?
And why is it not vegan otherwise?
These questions are asked by many people who hear about it for the first time. Rapid tests, such as the pregnancy test, are based on an interaction of detection molecules, the antibodies. These antibodies bind on the surface of the test and also bind the target molecule, the pregnancy hormone hCG.

For the classical production of antibodies, immunization of one mammal is performed. For the production of large quantities, antibody-producing cells are subsequently used in several animals to amplify the antibody. In addition to this production in animals, antibodies are also produced in animal cell culture. However, this requires animal components such as fetal calf serum (FCS) or bovine serum albumin (BSA). Both are obtained from the blood of living animals.
We have developed an alternative to bypass the production in animals completely. Through our vegan production in diatoms, we can save the lives of numerous animals. Every year, 15 million pregnancy tests are sold. We want to enable buyers to choose an animal-free and sustainable alternative to this emotional product.

Our pregnancy test is a medical device. That means it’s thoroughly tested and certified to give the right result. It’s a long road to get there – that’s why you won’t find our test online or on the shelves when you shop until 2025. If you want to follow our development and more info, follow us on instagram!
